Fueling dreams with every win: UB at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa

The University of Baguio (UB) Cardinals proudlyu celebrates the achievements of its student athletes at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa. This year’s games were held in Laoag, Ilocos Norte and marks the 65th time that the event has been held in the country. UB was one of the representatives for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), which garnered a total of 41 medals across the different categories.

The university’s Cardinals earned a total of 11 gold medals and 5 silver medals, adding up to a total of 16 medals in five different categories, netting UB the title of Overall Champion in CAR. UB also emerged as the overall champion in the Taekwondo category.

For the Arnis Secondary Boys category, Richard Nabus Jr. (Grade 12) earned a silver medal in the Individual Sword and Daggeer Category as well Discus Throw. In the Athletics Boys Secondary category, Zachary Lawig (Grade 11) also earned a silver medal in the Discus Throw. In the Badminton Elementary category, Renee Scarlette Somentac (Grade 5) also earned a silver medal.

Earning three gold medals in the Taekwondo Elementary category were Zion Ysabelle Buenviaje (Grade 2), Jamella Jareau Crane Mabanglo (Grade 6), and Winter Niamh Scarlet Abuan (Grade 3). All three played in the Team Poomsae event, while Buenviaje also earned gold in the Freestyle event. Mabanglo also earned a silver medal in the Individual Poomsae event, and Kyla Nicole Takinan (Grade 5) brought home a silver medal in the Kyorugi event.

The remarkable achievements of UB’s students highlight their passion and dedication to their discipline, embodying the champion’s spirit that the university aims to nurture in its athletes. Their hard work and determination serve as a steadfast inspiration to their fellow athletes and UBians.
