UBHS Math Club Excels at the 2023 District Math Festival

The 2023 District Math Festival, held at the PCNHS Senior High Annex on October 14 and 17, 2023, was an event filled with excitement and extraordinary mathematical talent. Among the standout participants, the UBHS Math Club made their presence felt, led by their dedicated educators and a group of remarkable students. We celebrate their remarkable achievements and acknowledge the outstanding performance of the club.

A Dedicated Leadership Team

Behind the success of the UBHS Math Club was a trio of educators who provided unwavering support and mentorship. The leadership of these individuals was crucial in preparing the students for this prestigious competition:

  • Mrs. Jessae Marie R. Barboza, Math Subject Head
  • Mr. Rodolfo Jr F. Calimlim, Math Club Adviser
  • Mr. Nelson A. Odasco, Coach

Their commitment to nurturing mathematical talent and guiding the students played a vital role in the club’s extraordinary performance.

Diverse Competitions, Outstanding Results

The 2023 District Math Festival featured a wide range of competitions, including intense Damath contests, problem-based mathematical investigations, and research-based mathematical investigations. Here are the highlights of the UBHS Math Club’s achievements:

Problem-Based Mathematical Investigation:

  • Rishi-R Cendana’s third-place win in the Individual Mathematical Investigation category was a testament to their exceptional problem-solving skills, highlighting the club’s commitment to fostering innovative and analytical thinking.

Rational Damath (Grade 8):

  • Viena Cadate’s remarkable 8th place finish and division finalist title in the Rational Damath category showcased the club’s high standards of mathematical excellence.

Polynomial Damath:

  • Lynel Odasco’s impressive second-place finish in the Polynomial Damath category underscored their dedication and proficiency in mastering complex mathematical concepts. This achievement highlighted the club’s emphasis on developing diverse mathematical skills among its members.

The Journey Continues

While the individual and group accomplishments of the UBHS Math Club members at the 2023 District Math Festival are undoubtedly noteworthy, their journey doesn’t end here. These talented mathematicians are poised to inspire and lead the way for future generations to embrace the beauty of mathematics.

In addition to the individual and group competitions, the club also participated in research-based mathematical investigations. Two such projects submitted by senior high participants are worth noting:

  • “Application of the Pascal Triangle in Finding the Values of Exponential Numbers” by Precious Angelie Lemi and Trisha Loren Rillera
  • “Sequencing the Formation of the Edges in Multidimensional Figures” by Eon Gonzales

These research projects were submitted directly to the Division Office for the Division Level, showcasing the department and club’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mathematical knowledge and innovation.

The achievements of the UBHS Math Department and Club at the 2023 District Math Festival exemplify dedication, hard work, and remarkable talent. Beyond the awards and recognition, these accomplishments serve as a source of pride for the school and reaffirm the importance of nurturing a passion for mathematics. It is a shining example of what can be achieved through passion, perseverance, and teamwork in the realm of mathematics, and their future looks incredibly promising.
