In the realm of academic excellence, the Math Olympiad stands as a pinnacle of achievement, attracting brilliant minds from around the world to compete. Two outstanding University of Baguio high school students recently emerged in one of these prestigious competitions. The two students showcased their dedication, intelligence, and the triumph of their collaborative efforts.
The 2023 International Math Wizards Challenge (IMWIC) and the Guangdong Hongkong Macau Greater Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad (BBB) Heat Round serve as platforms to showcase the skills and knowledge of these students in diverse fields in mathematics. These competitions not only foster healthy competition but also promote international cooperation and the exchange of ideas among the brightest young minds.
Precious Angeli Lemi, a grade 12 student, joined the IMWIC. She joined the competition onsite in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from June 22 to 23, 2023, and was presented with the Merit Award. Also, Precious together with Trisha Loren Rillera, another grade 12 student, joined the online competition of the Greater Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad (BBB) Heat Round. Where, Trisha Loren won third place (bronze award) and she will join the final international round this coming March 2024 in Macau, China.
Their journey towards international recognition began when they participated in district, regional, and national-level competitions earning them the opportunity to represent the school on the global stage. Both hailing from the senior high of the University of Baguio High School, they have demonstrated exceptional aptitude and passion.
In the months leading up to the competitions, both students dedicated countless hours to rigorous preparation. This involved solving complex problems, engaging in collaborative study sessions, and seeking guidance from mentors and experts in their respective fields.
