UBHS Risk Management Hyflex Seminar & Earthquake Drill

The University of Baguio High School (UBHS) once again took a proactive step towards equipping its students with essential life skills through its recent seminar and training event titled “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Senior High School Seminar and Training on Disaster Risk Reduction.” The event organized by the UBHS CORDRR1 Department aimed to educate Grade 11 STEM students on disaster risk management and safety measures.

The seminar commenced with an insightful session by Dr. Warren Moyao, a distinguished faculty member of the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety (SCJPS). Dr. Moyao delved into the intricacies of disaster risk management, shedding light on various types of disasters and emphasizing the importance of understanding them for effective mitigation and response strategies.

Following the first presentation, Mr. Lardizabal Lupadit, a seasoned expert in security and former Head of Security at the University of Baguio, focused on safety and security measures, with a special emphasis on earthquake safety protocols. Students were provided with practical tips and guidelines on how to stay safe during seismic events, empowering them with the knowledge needed to navigate such situations confidently.

The seminar smoothly progressed into an earthquake drill, led by Director Julia Flores and the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Committee of the University’s Risk Management Office. This practical exercise took place at the UB Legacy Building, the university’s most recent construction. The students efficiently carried out evacuation protocols, showcasing their readiness and grasp of safety measures. The drill concluded with students assembling at the UB Parking lot, designated as the evacuation area, ensuring a structured and well-coordinated approach to potential emergencies.

The seminar and training event served as a platform for UBHS Grade 11 STEM students to acquire invaluable knowledge and skills in disaster risk reduction. By fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience, the initiative not only equips students with essential life skills but also nurtures future leaders capable of steering their communities through challenging times.

This activity stands as a testament to the University of Baguio High School’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of its students. By imparting essential knowledge and practical skills, the seminar equips students with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of an ever-changing world, empowering them to emerge as confident, capable leaders ready to make a positive impact on society.
